| Home What We Do Storytelling Workshops
Students
view three winning stories told by children from around the
world. They are then asked to identify the connection among the
three stories. Students are introduced to the concept of my story, your story, and OUR story:
- We are all different.
- We all have stories to tell.
- Despite differences, we can find elements in every story that connect to our lives.
- We can understand each other better through stories.
- We can communicate and connect with people from all over the world through stories.
- Therefore, a story isn’t just my story or your story, it is OUR story.
Students
are introduced to the art of storytelling. A basic introduction of the
narrative arc is presented, including the conflict or problem, rising
action, climax, falling action, and resolution. They are asked to
continue telling the story of one of the three that were read.
OUR Story workshops aim to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Increase cultural awareness and global understanding
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Foster creativity
- Hone writing skills
